naissance d'un croco

Plus de 7000 crocodiles vivent près de Cairns dans une ferme d'élevage.
. Freshwater crocodiles occur only in inland waters of northern Australia. In Queensland they are found mainly in the rivers and swamps of Cape York Penisula, areas bordering the Gulf of Carpentaria and the north-west. Very common in upstream freshwater rivers and billabongs, freshwater crocodiles also live in tidal reaches of some rivers. So, freshwater and estuarine crocodiles sometimes live together. Appearance: Similar to estuarine crocodiles, freshwater crocodiles have a narrow snout, streighter jawline, and a row of four large scales on the neck, immediately behind the head. males can grow to 3m, but animals over 2,5m are rare.
Females rarely exceed 2m. Males mature at about 2m and females st 1.5 both at an estimated age of 15-20 years.
Breeding: Late in the dry season Unlike estuarine crocodiles, the mother might stay near, but does not appear to guard the nest. Incubation takes 65-90 days and the young usually hatch before the first floods of the wet season. Like estuarine crocodiles, low and very high incubation temperatures produce females.
