beautiful Ballarat Botanic Gardens, established in 1857, are the pride
of the city. The 40ha garden features the contemporary Robert Clark Conservatory,
the majestic statue pavilion, rare, exotic trees and flower displays. *Historic Lydiard Street displays some of the finest architecture in Australia. Ballarat Fine Art Gallaery is the oldest purpose built gallery in the country and houses one of Australia's most comprehensive collections of Australian Art. At the Mining Exchange building fortunes changed hands every day. Visit the Sovereign Hill Gold Mining Township, a living representation of the gold rush era. The discovery of gold was a revolution in the history of Australia. The first nugget at summer discovered in 1851 in Bathurst (NWS). Other seams were discovered in Ballarat, Bendigo and in the torrents of Cordière Australian. With this discovery the men leave the cities and the emigrants arrive by vagueness to go to seek fortune. A mining tax was creates, of the thousands of gold diggers their licences of minors as a sign of protest burned, and assembled a barricade, a few days later the army tackles the battle left some soldiers and minors on the ground, of which (the barricade of Eureka).
