This little-known section of the Great Sandy national Park stretches from the north of Noosa up to rainbow Beach boasting spectacular sand dunes, tranquil waterways and mangroves and rainforests brimming with life.

of Interest
Cooloola National Park
This park consists of 40,000 hectares & was gazetted in December 1975. The aboriginal name "Cooloola" means coastal cypress pine.
The park was extended in 1963 with an additional 16,370 hectares of the western Noosa River catchment.
It has been enlisted in the Great Sandy Region for World Heritage Listing.
Double Island Point. Aboriginal name "Guillirae" named by Capitain Cook in 1770. The lighthouse was commissioned in september 1885, a school opened there in 1887 and remained in operation until 1922.
Cherry Venture. 1600 ton empty cargo vessel was grounded on 8th July, 1973 after gale force winds and wild seas drove her onto Teewah Beach 3 kilometres south of Double Island Point.

Access to Fraser Island by vehicular barge available from Hervey Bay (Urangan Boat Harbour or River Heads) or Rainbow Beach, aircraft, passenger launches, or private boats.
