The vineyards are divided into two zones:
The district of Polkolbin, near Cessnock, and the Upper Hunter,
near Muswellbrook.
I decide to go the direction of Cessnock. The sandy hillocks and the
microclimate of the Hunter Valley form excellent conditionsfor one
of the best winw producing areas of Australia. About 60 or so vineyards
are open to the public, with winetastings and sales. European and
colonial, lush and historic, the Hunter Valley is greatly appreciated
in February-March during the Hunter Vintage Walkabout, (a wine fair).
People are friendly and welcoming.
The vineyards most known outside of Austrlia are:
Lindemans, Wyndham Estate, Rosemount et Rothbury Estate.
I arrived in the middle of the wine harvest, most instructive, another
approach to wine harvest from the French and Swiss Romande (French
speaking region of Switzerland, where I live).
Lots of choices of sports activities, like golf, horseback riding,
walking, and balloon rides through the vineyards!
